Tunsia 2009
Value for money is the word on all of our lips at
escorted golf tours, whether it is a luxury long hall or a price
conscious short hall in these current economic times it is very
important that we feel our clients are getting great value from
one of our holidays. To this end Tunisia certainly fits the bill,
a four star all inclusive hotel right on the beach, four rounds
of golf, transfer to and from the airport, Stableford competition
with a £100 first prize for ladies and men and all for £649
excluding flights. Now that's good value for money.
Only two hours thirty minuets flight time to Monastair
airport and a thirty minuet transfer to our four star Rui Hotel
at Port el Kantaoui. The hotel is very well situated with golden
sands and the Mediterranean to the rear and two golf courses to
the front and side and a short stroll to the El Kantaoui Port on
the other side.
Here at the Port you can find lots of restaurants,
shops, cruises for the more adventurous or just sit and while the
way the hours as we like to do over beer. Staying in an all inclusive
hotel tends to put a damper on dining out, so I cannot say if the
restaurants are good or bad from my own experience however Mary
from our escorted golf tours team recommends them as being excellent.
I will say wine is a problem if you are a connoisseur, however after
a couple of glasses even the Tunisian wine starts to taste a little
better.
The two golf courses are both designed by Ronald Fream,
the Panoramic and the Sea Courses, as you might have guessed the
Panoramic is a little undulating as you climb up to the top of the
course although it is downhill for the last few holes. This course
is on a bigger scale than its counterpart with more room off the
tee and larger greens. The sea course shorter flatter and much narrower,
with tiny greens, you get the feeling you should take it apart,
but it is very tricky. Both courses are in reasonable condition
although we do play preferred lies, and it is worth noting that
spring is the best time to play, as the heat is so intense throughout
the summer months they loose the courses completely and have to
regenerate them in the autumn ready for the season.
There are some great tourist spots in and around the
area, a day's tour of Carthage certainly will not disappoint and
nearer to home a taxi ride which is not for the weak of heart to
Sousse is great fun, bargaining in the souks a must. On another
note of warning if you are offered a free trip to Sousse and a visit
to a carpet factory unless you really want a carpet avoid at all
costs, as the only motivation is to sell you carpets it reminds
me of that Rowan Atkinson advert for the well known credit card,
although those that went on the magic carpet ride I did promise
they would remain nameless, unless of course you cross my palm with
silver.
The ladies winners were in third place from Cannons
Brook Ann Denis in second place also from Cannons Brook Sheila Lee
and the winner from Stoke by Nayland Ann Thomas.
In the mens event from Cannons Brook Mark Denis, in second spot
from Croydon Gary Phillips, and the winner from Liverpool David
Sellers, well done to everyone.
Later this year we are running another value
for money tour to Islantilla on the Spanish Algarve, visit escortedgolftours.co.uk
for details, we hope you can join us.
