South Africa 2011, The Winelands and Garden Route Escorted tour.

Gary and Marion invite you to join them, in what has become one of our most popular tours, "The Winelands and Garden Route".

After our overnight flight we arrive Cape Town and transfer to the Winelands and the stunningly beautiful town of Franschhoek, where we will be spending the first part of the tour at the Protea Franschhoek Inn. We have stayed there before it is very comfortable and situated at one end of the main street, which is ideal to visit the fabulous restaurants Franschhoek has to offer.

The history of Franschhoek can be traced back to 1867 when Simon van der Stel and 23 pioneers travelled from Stellenbosh over Helshoogte (Hells Pass) and into the valley, which would in future be called Franschhoek or translated means French Corner. By 1692 a total of 201 French Huguenots had settled in and around the Cape most of them in the Franschhoek area.

The Dutch East India Company encouraged the Huguenots to move to the Cape, they were highly skilled farmers with specifically in the farming of grapes.

Today we are the beneficiaries of their early labours with wines and wonderful cuisine all set in the beautiful town of Franschhoek.

Our second stop is to the NH Plettenberg Hotel this contemporary African hotel is located in the heart of the Garden Route surrounded by breathtaking scenery, adjacent to the Goose Valley Golf course designed by Gary Player and is a tranquil haven in the midst of unspoiled nature. Each of the 38 spectacular, stylishly decorated rooms and 5 luxury suites offers all the comforts of home complete with a fireplace, satellite TV, air-conditioning, coffee and tea station and private balcony or terrace with views of the golf courses and Bitou polo fields.

The Courses whilst in Franschhoek we are playing three great courses Stellenbosch, a very traditional parkland course that has held the South African Open and Masters tournaments, De Zalze Golf Club on the Spier wine farm estate designed by one of my favorite designers Peter Matkovich.

No trip to this area cannot be complete without a visit to the Jack Nicklaus designed Pearl Valley.

Goose Valley a world class course located alongside the Keurbooms Lagoon and nature reserve, we are playing here twice.

Plettenberg Country Club a top 50 course and the peace de resistance Simola another Jack Nicklaus signature course.

This promises to be another fantastic journey down the Garden Route we both hope you can join us.
